you won't find much help here, because it's not the best idea. basically you'll need a 12v source to power the amp, and an enclosure for the sub

Don't use the car amplifier, just plug the sub's cable into the left channel (left side speaker output) output on the back of your home stereo (positive to pos., negative to neg.), together with the left side speaker's wire, and you'll be good to go.
Much the same as with an automobile's stereo system, it is the left channel that is used to feed the "low"-level/sub-frequency output, whereas the right channel feeds the "highs". You may not attain the level of performance from your sub as you would if it were hooked up in your car with an amplifier, but you will noticed a much fuller sound and detect alot more of the lows from songs on the radio than you could have before.

It is an inexpensive amplifier that runs off of a 120v wall outlet and usually has high AND low level inputs.

Keep in mind when looking for a home-audio amplifier... you don't need as much power is in your vehicle.

If you hook the 2-4ohm sub to an 8ohm reciever...its gonna sound like shit.

how exactly will the impedence of the sub affect sound quality? keep in mind that home set-ups are rarely driven as hard as car setups...and generally have a lower THD

You will notice absolutely no audible difference in sound quality, even at a lower impedance.

However, your reciever may shit itself (I.E. shutoff/reset).
