Hi guys I live in New Jersey and lately I find myself wanting to get a rifle for practice shooting at a range, and I found out rather embarrassingly that I can't just go to a range and rent one out to shoot in my state.
My question is where do I go & or what do I have to do to get a permit so that I can go buy one?
I know there will be some kind of background check and a waiting period; and that the laws are probably different for hand guns vs. rifles, but I'm looking to get a rifle.
Can anyone help me out :hs:

    Move out of Jersey :dunno:

Here in TN all you need is a drivers license to rent a gun. Is jersey the state that requires a permit to purchase?

    Which range?

At eds you have to give them your license to shoot on the range.

Prolly because the stupid wannabe gangbangers kept shooting the conveyor wires and target holders out.

I put mine, but dont really care. Alot of guys just dont fill it out, but I doubt the government is going to look for old range logs to find gun owners.

they make you guys put your actual license info down? i just put my name printed, and sign the bottom. they have never asked to see my DL unless i was buying a gun.

and thats where you are wrong... they have unlimited resources. if they wanted to find this info, they would definately get their hands on it.

My indoor county range takes down your license #, no choice there the old guy writes it in the log. Outdoor range I goto they dont even check your license, pull in pay the guy, goto your lane.

my indoor range doesn't even look at your license unless you rent, in which case they hold onto it untill you return the gun.

They clip your actual license to your ticket while you are shooting. It's up to you to write your correct name and license number in the log book though.

After you're done shooting, you pay and get your license back.

Both my indoor and outdoor range have you write your name in the logbook and head for your lane. If it's your first trip to the range you need to fill out a safety form that takes all of 30 seconds. I suddenly feel better about living in Michigan.
