I just went to a gun store to look around at different guns they had and what they had them priced at (way too high, IMO).

I had been to this store before and they told me that I was not allowed to bring anyone to the range to shoot my handgun if they were under 21. I asked why and they said it was a felony to possess a handgun under the age of 21.:wtf: I told them they were wrong, and they were pretty adamant that it's a felony. At the time, I did not know the exact US Code that backed me up but I doubt that would have done anything anyways.

Now, about 5 months later I just visited it again. I don't remember if this sign was here before or not, but they have a sign that says:
"You must be 21 to purchase a shotgun or assault rifle"

    :wtf:

I want to ask them why they have that sign there and what their reasoning behind it is. If it's store policy, then they're allowed to be idiots. If they say it's law, then I want to correct them because I hate people propagating incorrect information, especially about guns and gun laws.

How would you go about edumacating these clowns?

I'd write a letter to the store owner explaining why their anti-gun policies are keeping you from returning to his store.

I don't plan on it... but they do have a P2000 that I want to rent at their range. :wtc:

The other gun store is farther away and have a shittier selection of guns to rent at their range.

ignore them. They're just screwing themselves out of sales. A business reserves the right to refuse service to anyone... So if they want to set an age limit (as long as it is more restrictive than legally required -- can't be less restrictive) then they're fine.

I'm going to find out their reasoning for the 21+ for the long guns. If it's store policy, then so be it. If they're saying it's the law, then I have a problem with it.

You can't, because they are experts and you suck and are barely smart enough to breathe 12 times a minute, let alone handle the godly power of a smallarm.

so they're all former H&K reps? (except they don't say the 'and', since they are all operators and they don't have the time to).

No, most of them are HK rep wannabes who haven't learned to tilt their noses up high enough yet.

I refuse gun sales all the time. Mostly it's due to two people looking at a gun together and one of them wanting to buy it.

yea, "due diligance". It is the gun shop's responsibility to deny transactions that are likely straw purchases.

Do you know for sure its not the law? In my state assault rifles are considered regulated, just like handguns and they follow all the same laws as a handgun sale, which means wait period, no more than one within 30 days and no sales to anyone under 21. It also holds true for certain shotguns that have things like extended mags and collapsible stocks.

BTW, my local gun shop will not sell anything to anyone under 21, even allowable long guns, unless a parent comes in to ok the sale. That is simply their policy and they know its not the law, but just what they do.

As far as they are concerned, and I totally agree, there is no reason that someone who is 19 and wants to buy a long gun cant get a parent or guardian to come in and ok the sale, unless they are buying it for some illegitimate reason.

You have the option to shop there or not.

I bought my first gun at 19 (Remington 870 shotgun) and I didn't live with my parents... In fact, I wasn't even in the same state as my parents. I also did not have any "illegitimate reason" for wanting a shotgun. It would however, be impossible for me to have my parents "approve" of such a purchase under the circumstances.

I disagree with the shops decision, but I respect their right to make that business decision. I would simply take my business elsewhere.

jesus...reading some of the comments in here, I'm really glad I go to a sane gunshop.

So, a 19 or 20 year old who lives on the other side of the country from their parents wouldn't be allowed to buy a rifle because of that store policy, despite the federal govt saying it's okay. :ugh2:

it's true, gun owners are our own worst enemies.
