    I have 1 HD that I recently added FC5 to in a second partition. Grub was setup as the boot loader. I want XP to be the default booted OS as I only use FC5 for a few things. How can I change the boot order? FC5 always loads if I don't catch the boot option menu in time to select Windows.

    I need to be able to get this setup so if I need to remote restart the computer or have a power failure, XP loads up again. I access my home PC from work all the time to test stuff out of my companies network and internet connection.

    I'm not sure how to do it through the FC GUI (although I'm sure there's a way), but you can do it manually by editing the file /boot/grub/menu.lst (as root of course). Just add savedefault (on its own line) to the XP section of the file.

    I use grub.conf:

    Code:
    [email protected] ~ $ cat /boot/grub/grub.conf
    default 0
    timeout 10

    title=Gentoo Helica 1.01c
    root(hd0,0)
    kernel /boot/helica-1.01c root/dev/sda3

    title=Gentoo Helica 1.01b
    root(hd0,0)
    kernel /boot/helica-1.01b root/dev/sda3

    title=Gentoo 2006.0 Stock Kernel
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /boot/kernel root=/dev/sda3
    [email protected] ~ $

    change the "default" to an integer representing the item you wish to boot. Numbering starts with "0" and increments each entry down the file.
