so we have 4 guys in the apartment sharing a cable connection via a belkin g router. there's always at least one of us downloading and end up taking up all the bandwidth. Is there any way (whether through router config or software) to cap each person's download speed so while theyre downloading, the rest of us can still surf comfortably? Please help! Thanks!

what kind of internet connection do you have? also, what kind of app are you using to download? personally, i have never reached a level of download where i effect browsing.

now, i have easily reached a level if uploading where browsing is effected. i'm on a 4MB down, 400k up, cable connection.... horribly unbalanced, but i cant change that. :(

i would see what steps you can take to limit your upload speed on whatever filesharing (torrents, etc) to limit that. i'm betting that is what is really giving you problems, not the downloading.

Someone should call them and tell them to stop running it on their webserver...
