Stretch your achille's tendons and calves.

Make sure you're warm before doing an extensive amount of running.

Look into 'dynamic stretching'. I stopped having shin splints after I learned how to properly stretch.

Taping the ankles and wrapping helps a bit.

I had shin splints really bad in high school when I played football. Now they don't bother me so much.

I found what helped me the most was being very very strict with my posture because I tended to hunch forward when I started to get tired. Instead I make a continous conscious effort to keep my torso straight as possible, always shoulders back and chest forward. I probably look like a total douche, but I'm not in pain anymore.

Real simple as I was the only person on the track team in college without them. Work your tib anterior. It's ont he front of your shin. Think reverse calf raise.

you know you can lose weight without doing any cardio right? just eat right and lift.

Since you insist on running stick to grass and get a pair of well fitted shoes because 250lbs will put a lot of stress on your joints and shit.

well i'm thick but I do run normally, it's just when I stop for like month that I get it real bad. I think I need to slowly up my running distance rather than go all out every day, I think that's what's fucking me up. Right now i'm running about 2 1/4 miles in 35 minutes to warm up. Is that bad to start out? :dunno:

The best stretch for shin splints is when you kneel down with your shins flat against the ground and the top of your feet flat against the ground. In a way that your toes point straight back still inline with your shins. You can lean back to really stretch your shins out. This has always helped me.
