I have a child, married, 2 car payments, a mortgage, and a decently good paying job. My bonuses and commission checks paid for my equipment. I'm trying to book more things to pay for my equipment. I'm also switching jobs to allow me to book more things too... huge step, but well worth the risk IMO.

I don't value good food very highly.

That and that fact that I don't have much gear.

Single, no kids, live with parents, landed a fresh out of college entry level job that pays well above what I was told to expect for my first gig in my field.

My dad gave me a D80 for my birthday and a SB600 for Christmas. I already had a 100-300 zoom so I am good for now.

College student at FIT here in NY, working to get my bachelor's in Photography next spring so my parents and brother are very supportive. I don't spend money on ANYTHING except camera gear and I intend to pay back every single penny I borrow as soon as I graduate. Close family > CC bills with interest.

Buy used, set a price for something an beg/borrow/steal it down to that price. I wanted a 10-22 for well over a year before I got it for 450, I am still waiting for a 70-200 2.8 L, and a 24-70L... it's all about patience.

savings...I use my VA disability and just save up. I find something I want and then I set the money from my disability aside until I can afford it. Then I buy it. It's a slow process, but it works.
