What i mean is. Is it the same taking the shake right away compared to in half and hour or one hour?
some diets suggest a pro-carb shake within 15 minutes
i think the nutrition edu has something on it. Lookup alan aragon too.
sooner the better
i try to get my post-workout shake in within half an hour. if i dont then i dont.
i bring mine with me to the gym. Just throw a bunch of ice in it and drink it on the drive home.
Right after, at worst its the same as drinking one like 20 minutes later, and at best its better.
as soon as i can
Also can i make the protein shake and leave it in a water bottle for like an hour and expect nothing to happen, like will the solution remain stable?
the powder might bunch up at the bottom and then you're screwed. unless you shake it.
I put a shaker bottle in my trunk with two scoops in there and a water bottle and drink it in the parking lot after my workout.
i mix a big old shake up in my shaker bottle and take it to them gym and fill it with water. I drink some of it while working out usually leaving about half left by the end. then I drink the other half on the drive home.
i've been using this for about half a year and it still works great: http://www.amazon.com/Fit-Fresh-749...8-5938525?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1174975378&sr=8-2 . It's just a bit of a bitch to clean all the parts. the powder goes in the lil compartment in the twist off bottom, and there's an ice pack that keeps milk cold (if you use milk).
I drink it right after i leave the gym. I keep it in my car.
All above postings are true. Best to take it with you, drink it immeidately after workout. My personal trainer recommended NO LONGER than 30 minutes after workout.
After my last set I stretch for 5 min, have a 15 min drive home [during the drive I eat a handfull of peanuts and Dextrose in the form of Sprees], drink my creatine as i'm preparing my PWO shake (2 scoops, milk, banana, water/ice) and eat it with dry cereal.
So, I eat my PWO meal at least 30 min PWO and I make serious gains.
I've always read have PWO meal eaten within 1 hour of last set.
Also, I don't believe it's a good idea to leave protein power mixed in water for an extended period of time; look it up.
i usually do it within 30 minutes.... no later than an hour
less than 15 min is ideal.
I bring bread and a protein shake with me to the gym, store it in my locker, then drink/eat right after.
couldn't find anything, show me.
A pre-workout drink is more effective than a PWO drink. So if you have something before, there should be something in your stomach during and after the exercise bout and taking it 5 or 30 minutes after wouldn't really matter since its absorption would be limited by the food already there.
So Pre + Post > Pre > Post.
Even Berardi lost his boner on PWO drinks.
when you've been fasting for 8 hrs
Well, same goes for PWO nutrition. Most people have something in their stomach anyway which is some pre-workout nutrition but there's still some people lifting and doing cardio on an empty stomach in the morning...
I think I was wrong. Protein won't become unstable if mixed in water and left to sit for an hour like that guy was concerned about. Unless it has creatine in it. Creatine definitly becomes unstable in a liquid form.
But regardless; would you prepare a meal and let it sit on the counter for an hour then eat it?
Whey protein is as susceptible to bacteria as any other food.
