I'm quitting smoking for the 2nd time. I went 18 months last time, then started working in a bar and couldn't stay away. I have been unable to control the cravings because my roomate is a smoker, so I was a huge pussy and started again. I've been 2 months now without a cig, my roomate is smoking again, but I have no desire...so hopefully I'll be strong enough to avoid it.

What should I do about salvaging my repiratory system after trying to kill myself for a couple years?

I woke up one morning and decided to join a gym. I was still an on and off smoker (tapered off from about 3 packs/week, for 6 years). Surprisingly, I was able to jog 2 miles everyday on the treadmill, albeit coughing every once in a while.

I found something way more soothing than a nicotine buzz - something people call the "runner's high" after running for a while. What a rush! I decided that I would chase that feeling more than anything.

3+ months later I am cig free and about 20 lbs. lighter. (I was pudgy)

My advice? Run until you can't breathe. Chase the runner's high. Your lungs will recover faster than you think. It's a great feeling to know you can run and the only reason to stop is that your legs hurt, not your lungs. Everytime you see someone smoking, take a very deep breath and smile that you are 1 second further away from your last cigarette and 1 second closer to being healthier.

    Good Luck! :)

I just came back from doing a few laps at a nearby track.
Was walking 200m and running 200m for about 14 laps.
Anyway I was there for at least 40 min.

There was a guy there before me and was still there when I was leaving.
He walked the entire time but had at least two cigarettes while I was there.:eek3:
