To take a total of 1700 photos. 400 photos of old b/w prints, front and back + 900 18x15 posters, front only.

Final photos need to be cropped to the edges of the artwork and delivered on a DVD.

I figured that it's gonna take me about 30 seconds per photo to shoot, and another 30 seconds each to crop in LR. That's about 14 hours of work, non stop.

It is rather easy. I have a 16x20 piece of glass that I slide the art/photos under, hit the button on my pocketwizard and move on.

I had to shoot about 400 pieces of art for the same company back in December. I was able to knock it out in about 5 hours.

Good God no. Not for this company. I billed them $800. They had another photographer who was going to do it for less but since I've shot for them before they know and like my work. But I have to keep my rates low.

This is mindless work, not creative stuff.

At the shop I'm at we do $10 for anything that can't be flatbed scanned and has to go over to the large format copy station.

I would do something like $xx per photo... maybe like a buck a photo... like you said, it's not creative work...

That's exactly what I'm going to do. I added another $100 for administrative expenses, etc. I figure that I can make an alignment tool out of white tape so that every piece of art is shot in exactly the same spot then simply do a batch process in LR with all the crop information. This will save me hours of work in post. I should be able to complete all the post work, including cropping, sizing and output to jpegs in about an hour or two.

    If you billed $800 for 5 hours, that's $160/hour

Times $160/hour at 14 hours of work is $2240.

For 5 hours worth of work, in my home, at my leisure. I'll do that all day long.

5 hours of work for $800 isn't all that bad. It takes me longer to edit photos I take for less money.

Exactly. This kind of work is assembly line robotic. Once I set up my rig, I can pull the artwork in, shoot it, go on to the next one. The hardest part is keeping my concentration so I don't miss something.

The one thing that will screw me is if all the art work is different size. However the client said that the photos are all 8x10's and the posters are all the same size.

I'd say between $1200-1500. I personally wouldn't want to overcharge in hopes of them using me in the future.

I'm charging them a bit more than that but they've given me some good work in the past so I don't mind giving them a break, especially when I can work at home, in my leisure.

Nothing better then just kicking back at home and working at your own pace!
