How much weight should I gain? And how?

    Ok, so here's the deal: I'm underweight. I know I need to gain some weight back but I don't want to do any gym work. I get enough exercise from walking, biking and soccer etc.

    If your wondering why I weigh what I do it is due to depression which I am also dealing with.

    Anyways, I am 6'1-3/4" and I weigh 130 pounds. Keep in mind the most I ever weighed was 150. So would getting back to 150 be my best bet? Also how unhealthy is my current weight?

    Do I just eat whatever I want and make sure I eat more? How fast is it healthy to gain weight? 1 lb a week?

    If you don't workout you will mostly put on fat...

    Working out and eating more would be your best bet, I'm afraid.

    Dude, I'm barely an inch taller and I weigh 100lbs more. Granted, I could stand to lose about 20 lbs of fat, but still...

    eat plenty. and if you dont want to go to the gym, there are plenty of body weight excercises that you can do at home (i.e. push-ups, pull-ups, bench-dips, crunches, etc...)

    point is, you should be doing some resistance training if you want to gain lean mass

    130 @ 6'2" is not healthy. You need to start taking in more calories there buddy and eating at least 4 regular meals per day. Also I would go to the doc and have you thyroid levels checked just to make sure it's not over active or anything. Jesus christ please start eating!

    Try eating 4000kcal a day and 200g protein.

    Yes I pulled those figures from my ass, but that should get you started and give you some idea of what to aim for. You may even need to take calories higher.

    Are protein powders/bars a good idea?

    I guess I can do a bit of weightlifting with some dumb bells around my house and do some push-ups. I want to assure the weight gain distribution is even.

    Not to be an ass, but to me 200 grams of protein for a 130 lb kid who doesnt work out seems a little bit... excessive.

    200 grams of protein is only 800 calories...if he is shooting for 4000 calories then that's only 20% of his daily intake from protein. It's fine.

    what the motherfuck... 130lbs? Are you kidding me?

    I'm 6'1".. If I got under 160 I think I'd be dead.

    count your calories at your normal diet and see how much you eat... at that size I'm sure you aren't eating enough.



    Try to eat healthy, high protein around 2500-3000 cals a day. 4k calories and 200g of protein is bull shit. If you want to blow up, then do that, but it will be a lot of hard work. I suggest you ease yourself into the transition by just eating more and working out. You will gain some size and slowly start adding more calories and supplements if you want. I think if you force yourself right off the bat to eat 4k cals a day you'll give up and remain the same.

    Then fuck off unless you like getting fat. Just eating a lot and biking or playing soccer isn't gonna do shit for you muscle wise.

    I may come off as an ass here but I see this shit all the time and I'm sick of it. It's like people enjoy being small and weak and don't want to put the effort in to do anything about it.

    If you're 6'1 and 130lbs you probably already look like a holocaust survivor and 150 isn't much better.

    If you don't hit the gym the only weight you'll gain is fat. Walking, biking, and soccer will do wonders for your calves and little else.

    seriously though, just try to eat something every half hour
    carry around apples and a gallon of water
    just eat eat eat
    and start a workout plan it will make you more hungry
    most likely you won't gain much fat because at your height your body naturally needs more calories so it will put everything where it needs to be. fat comes from excess calories you dont use as im sure you know, and you are so skinny your body will probably use everything till you get to your natural size

    I 5'10 150, and I look like a stickman. If I was 4" taller, I'd be grossly scrawny. Don't confuse being lean with being "very muscular", you can see all of my muscles well, but it's because I have no fat. But I'm still weak. He's gonna want to get up to 175 probably just to look healthy.

    He can't be that muscular, I'm the same height, and I used to be 145, that skinny, not much muscle at all. Tell him to bulk a little to 155 and then you will love him more. I'm at 160-165lbs now and i'm starting to be happy. But still very small.
