I squat about 225*5 below parallel and did lunges for the first time yesterday. I started with 40lbs in each hand and worked up to 60 doing 5*5. I can do more weight but it was still pretty difficult for me.

So how much do you guys use? Is 5*5 a good way to train for lunges? Also post your squat numbers for reference.

    Thanks. :wavey:

    And yes I know I'm a lightweight.

    I squat.. 150-175 for like 6-8 reps.

I do lunges with 40s but no more than 6 reps.. it's not so much the weight because I'm new to it. Balance is important. Plus, the quad on my back leg gets owned after squatting.

I saw a guy doing 225lb lunges with the barbell on his back. I thought it was pretty cool.

Squat over 500 but usually never go higher than 60's or 70's for lunges. I use lunges more for a good warmup and stretching exercise for my legs than an actual all-out workout. I dont know what I would use if I actually went all out though. I am more worried about perfect form/balance and getting a good warmup. Most guys I see trying to do lunges with 100lbs+ have crappy form anyways. (not saying that about anyone here though) :)

p.s. i was bullshitting entirely, i usually only do BW lunges as a warm up in a dynamic warmup

DTR... have you ever posted pictures? not trying to be an e-doubter, but you've said some big numbers for yourself, just wanna see if you can back it up.

Sorry man... I have had a lot of requests for pics but I just don't have a camera right now to take them with. I ordered a brand new Digi cam but when I got the brown box from UPS it was fucking empty! Someone at UPS stole my shit.

I should be refunded and have a cam in a couple weeks though and have some pics up for you guys. In the mean-time I dont really have anything to show you guys that would "show" my body. I have a few normal pics, but nothing that would let you be able to tell shit about my body type.

Not that this really helps I am sure, but this is the best I have right now from about 6 months ago. :hs:

Found a couple more on my comp..... Nothing completely shirtless, just showing the traps basically...... Disregard the sign, lol....

BTW: I have added about 15lbs of muscle and lost about 4% b/f since these pics

Sorry I can't do better. Hopefully within a few weeks though I will have my camera when UPS finishes their Bullshit investigation.

I step far enough forward that my front knee does not go infront of my toe. However, when my back leg bends down it feels like my quad is being stretched. Maybe I am not flexible enough, but I also think its' because it's pumped from squats.

I usually grab the 30 lb dumbells and do 3x8s with them. Something about my form hurts my right knee when I do them.

I normally do barbell when I do lunges. Is there a reason that everyone uses the dbs instead? I do bb 95x8-10

Probably because it's easier to balance weight with a much lower center of gravity?
