Short story: I haven't seen any kind of of definition in my stomach since I was in about 3rd grade. I'm about 5'10" and have yo-yo'd between 185 and 165 lbs for the last 5 years or so. I'm in the process of studying for the bar exam on July 24th (7 weeks from today). My goal has been to have stomach definition by the time I take the bar exam as I'll be going on some kind of vacation right after that to celebrate.

Now, I completely understand that the number on the scale means little to nothing. I lift at least 4 days a week doing one or two muscle groups doing 9 sets of 8-10 reps of each exercise. I also do an hour of cardio at least 4 days a week. I prefer to do the treadmill on 10 degree incline and do a mild walk to get the heart rate up around 150 bpm and keep it there. From my calculations, that burns around 500 calories per hour. I have been doing the bike lately as I hurt my foot so it is probably more like 400 calories per hour as it is harder to keep the heart rate up. Bottom line, I'm not that concerned with getting stronger or bigger at this point, but really just to lose the lingering fat.

Right now, I'm about 167 lbs. I've made a promise to myself as of today to cut out eating "crappy" food. I usually eat fairly "healthy" during the week but typically eat moderately shitty on the weekends. This still enables me to gradually lose weight (maybe 1/2 a lb a week). I know I'm being super vague...

Anyways, you can feel free to comment on all of this or just the question in the title. Here are the pics:

hmm, I would have to say around 15 lbs of body fat to have some good definition. Not just scale weight, bf.

All you need to do is hit the weights harder and eat clean from now on.

I like fatties...I know, I'm weird. Cute body, not too fat, not too skinny, manly chest hair, pretty nice. Like a broken screen door, I'd bang the hell outta you.

9 sets of 8-10 reps per exercise?

    did i read that right?

and yeah, just keep at it... clean up your diet and you should see some results in no time... you're gonna laugh, but it also helps to shave your stomach :dunno:
since calisteph likes the chest hair, you can keep that i suppose :mamoru:

No, not per exercise, per muscle group. Typically, I split up the 9 sets into 3 sets of 3.

Yeah, I was planning on shaving the chest/stomach hair once I lost a bit more weight. I think it would look weird for it to be smooth and flabby...

I roughly follow the "Max OT" plan except I shoot for 8-10 reps instead of 6-8 reps doing as much weight as I can while still maintaining at least 8 reps.

Quick Update: I've lost an inch around my waist and bellybutton area while still gaining a few pounds. I'm lifting 5 days a week working out as hard as I ever have. I'm doing 2 50-gram protein shakes a day during the week as well as eating the "cleanest" I have ever with a lot of grilled chicken.
