Back in like 2002 I paid a guy to build me a nice gaming computer. I played Counter-Strike and Diablo 2 mostly.

Now, I'm still using the same computer, and I'm assuming it couldn't handle the new games. It couldn't handle Half-Life 2 that great when it came out.

I currently have and AMD Athlon 1700+ 1.48ghz, 767 MB of DDR ram, and a Radeon 9600. I'm sure I need all new shit.

I'd prefer to just use the same case and whatnot.

I would not know how to build it myself, nor do I have any friends who could do it. I'd have to take it somewhere.

Can someone give me a price range? The main goal is to be able to play Starcraft II and Diablo III with great FPS when they arrive.

If you have a case you can use and don't need a monitor you can build a solid ass rig for like $600-700. Obviously a top notch rig is gonna be a good bit more.

Putting it together is way easy, especially these days, but I can see why you'd be weary of doing it yourself. For the most part though it's as simple as "If the pieces fit, that's where they go"

For this you're probably looking at closer to $1000, but if you don't mind putting everything on 'high' instead of 'insane', you could realistically do it for <$700.

you can buy all your shit on newegg and price match it to any site then pay 50 bucks extra for them to build it before sending it to you... you know what... I don't really remember if that was the deal or NCIX... just check.

Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 aren't going to be the most resource intensive games ever. Even the most intensive shit besides maybe Crysis can be ran on maxed settings for for well under $1000.

Unless you buy an overpriced prebuilt setup.

he could get a athlon II x4 and a $80 mobo and spend $180 for cpu+mobo instead of nearly $500 total and still play everything at max settings

    Don't.

PC Gaming is a waste of money.

Yeah, except for the games that will be coming out late this year or next year. And there's no way he could play the newest games (BF:BC2, ME2, etc.) at max settings with that setup.

That's my setup except with a weaker video card and I can run ME2 maxed out at 1920x1080 no problem :dunno:

Seems like people always way overestimate what games need to run well.

I haven't played ME2 yet, so you may be right. But BF:BC2 barely runs at max with my i7-920 and GTX-260.

Of course, the PC demo has some optimization issues.

Well, I wouldn't judge that one yet, sounds like it's more of an optimization issue than a hardware issue, but I has no beta so I can't really comment :o

Have fun getting no regular game updates or free DLC. Enjoy outdated graphics in a year or two. Also enjoy not being able to use Adobe or MS Office products or anything else that only a PC can do, on your 360.

    :o

stop spewing your faggotry in legit threads.

he asked about upgrading his pc, not about your opinions on console gaming.

    I don't have a 360.

And I only use my computer for Adobe and Internet.

I can't stand the mouse and keyboard for gaming anymore.

Mouse and keyboard is the only way FPS, RTS, and certain genres of RPGs should be played. :hsugh:
