How much time to spend on cardio?

    I'm just starting to take working out seriously and I do cardio for 30-40 mins or so before, workout for about 40 mins and do 15 mins of cardio after.

    According to the machines, I lose ~500-600 calories in total from the cardio (I'm sure those aren't 100% accurate).

    Now, what is the norm for cardio, and is what I'm doing okay?

    Switch it around

    10 minutes before your workout, 30 minutes after the workout
