Last year I shot a bunch of baseball trading cards for a client. This was a local shoot so it wasn't a big deal. I think I charged him $450 for shooting and editing about 600 pics. Today he called and wants me to fly to Oregon (remember I'm in NC) to shoot some more cards and other baseball collector items. This would require me to spend a whole day traveling, a day of shooting and another day to fly home.

    Thoughts??

When we travel, we charge travel expenses plus daily rate, whether we are working, or sitting on our thumb in one of them there jet planes. But a lot of times, we fly out earlier in the morning, then work in the afternoon, then the next morning and fly out the next afternoon, so we only have to charge for 2 days.

I'm thinking of $1800 plus expenses. That's giving him a pretty decent break on my daily rate. I told him I'd give him a discount since he was one my first clients. What 'cho think? Too cheap??

Probably no more that 4 hours of shooting. Most of the time would be traveling. Lots of editing afterward. I have to manually crop each pic. Plus the bitch is that I have two weddings to shoot the two days prior to leaving. I'd leave on a Sunday and come back on Tuesday. At least I could relax and read on the plane.

That's exciting. I'm getting close to having people want me to travel to come to them which is nice. $1800 sounds fair if it's only for a day and travel costs arent too high.

It'd be for two days of travel most likely. One day out and one day back. Three days total.

thanks guys. I'll call him tomorrow and see what he says. If he balks, no big deal since I can take it or leave it.

He probably will. I called him this morning and gave him my price. Haven't heard back from him. I really don't care if I do the shoot or not. I've got two back to back weddings the two days prior so if I don't do this gig, I'm not complaining.

At first, I thought you were shooting portraits to go onto baseball cards. $1800 seems reasonable for that.

if its the cards themselves, I'm expecting you to go with this:

Simple job...so $1800 prob seems high to show up and bang off a few hundred macro shots.
