Naturally it's better to try and get the shot you want entirely on camera, but almost every image needs a little tweak here and there in post processing. But how much is too much? Where does it stop being post processing, and turn into photochopping?

I've found actions in PS can be fun, but often goes to extremes on the processing end, and have started to shy away from them if i can.

depends on the photo, context, client, intended results, your style and a many more other factors. only you can answer that question...if you want to shy away from the extreme PP, then good. I like to shy away from it too.

no reason to "avoid" actions, remember you can adjust the opacity of the layer.

    Summed it up perfectly there.
Depending on what the shot is for, will influence how I'll pp it. For instance if I'm screwing around with photos and want to try some stuff on my own, I'll go extreme just to check it out. But on the other hand, anything that I submit to the newspaper has very, very basic adjustments if that.
