From your First amateur camera to right now, roughly how much have you spend/invested in your setup.

Also if you started a business has the return been more than your investment?

I have somewhere around $6000 just into what I carry around in my camera bag right now.....

I consider that to be on the cheap side...

damn....it was no joke when i first got curious about photography that i was told its an expensive hobby.

i just hit the 1k mark few days ago and i'm already getting an itch to spend more as the income tax refund comes in next month.

I apparently spent a min of 6k last year and didn't add anything but a 580II to the camera bag.

hmm, for everything that i bought specifically for photographic use? probably around 7-8000. This however is keeping in mind that i bought my 10D back when digital rebels didn't exist and "pro-sumer" level DSLRs were still expensive, so some of that hasn't been stretched as far as it could have these days.

I'm quoting insurance companies 14K for everything photography related that I own.

If I add up just lenses and bodies (welll, and battery grips)
    1400
    1400
    1800
    900
    900
    670
    420

7490 for the basic goods. Add on flashes, CF cards, cases, location lighting (stuff sits in a box 99% of the time) tripod and head, monopod, laptop and it approaches 14K pretty quickly. Damn, maybe even more.

Funny thing is that with the purchase of ONE mark III and a 300 2.8 I will roughly double the "meat" of my collection. Screw this job. TV videographers don't have to buy all their shit  They just get to play with the $100,000 lenses.
