Just as the title says.. How much gear do you all wear when riding? I'll start..

    Jacket
    Gloves
Boots (army issue leather combat boots, until I buy some real riding boots)
    Helmet

No pants yet.. saving for em though for track days

When I get the pants, I'm not sure if I'll wear them all the time. I'm looking into some armor I can put on under or over my jeans for regular street riding. But I wear everything I have all the time at the moment. I've seen too many people go down with not enough protection to ride with any less. Everyone I ride with is the same way too. But I see a lot of people ride with no gear at all. In fact, I saw a guy at the local bike night the other night riding with safety glasses, shorts, and tennis shoes, with a passanger (a girl) wearing saftey glasses, shorts and flip-flops! Wtf are some people thinking? Oh well, its their skin...

Absolute minimum - helmet, gloves, jacket, jeans, boots.

Typically - real riding pants instead of jeans

For a good ride - all leather, I hate cows

Part of my agreement with the wife, in order for me to get a bike, was that I wear All The Gear, All The Time. That said, the only gear I own right now is a helmet, gloves, and an armored jacket. I'd like some overpants for the commute to work (I like those armored Icon jeans too), and a pair of boots will be purchased within a few weeks. Oh, and my jacket was given to me by a friend, since he "never wears it anyways". Um, thanks, I guess.

I'd bet about 5% of the riders around here wear even a helmet, since NH has no helmet law. Makes me crazy when I see it...if you need to feel the wind rush through your hair that bad, drive with your windows down.

You don't wear pants when you ride? :eek3: So uh, how's the breeze feel? :big grin:

Absolute minimum... jacket, gloves, helmet, boots, jeans

Typical... Aerostich 1pc Roadcrafter, gloves, boots, helmet

The Aerostich (as seen in sig) is so damn convenient I really have little to no excuse to not wear it.

Well, I usually wear jeans and sneakers, but I don't qualify that as "gear". They're not motorcycle-specific. Hoping to find some boots pretty soon...

Almost always: Helmet, riding boots, gloves, riding jacket, jeans
When I'm out with friends going fast: 2-piece leathers, helmet, gloves, riding boots
When I'm on the track: Same as above but sometimes I wear a 1-piece suit

Always : Riding Jacket, Helmet, Gloves, Regular jeans, regular shoes

Riding with freinds (fast):Riding Jacket, Helmet, Gloves, Riding Boots, Jeans for now.

Planning on buying a 2 piece leather riding suit once the RC is finished. Im never wrecking with anything but leather on my upper body, and I plan on wearing the pants when ever going fast. Road rash is a bitch, especially when your nylon riding jacket melts into the road rash. :o

I'm getting a bigger scooter soon (200cc), how important do you think it is that I get pants and boots? I'm getting a helmet, gloves, and armored jacket for sure, but not sure about the boots and pants. How are boots better than basketball shoes, for example? Pants, I can see the benefit of, probably going to at least get some kind of overpants for comuting, since I wear shorts at work, and I know better than to wear shorts on a bike. This will be my first powered 2-wheeled vehicle, by the way, only ever had bicycles before. Always wore a helmet on those.

What? I asked a question, can you answer it? No? Then don't bother posting. You think you don't need saftey gear on a scooter or something?

As the saying goes...wear for the crash not for the ride. Also, if its to hot to wear gear, its to hot to ride.

Road rash sucks ass. I slid 150ft on a gravel road from 100mph, my pants were shredded.

Minimum is helmet, gloves, mesh or toruing jacket, jeans, and leather shoes. I should wear my boots more but in the 110+ summer the black boots get hot enough to actually burn my toes. I need thicker socks I think. Mesh pants with armor is something else up on the list of future purchases.

Anybody have that Joe Rocket liner for mesh jackets, I think it is called the Phoenix? That one you soak and evaporation is supposed to keep you cool... I wonder if that is worth the money or will the only difference be that I am wet when I arrive at work.

Usually on longer rides when it is really hot I will strap my camelback to the tank. Wearing it just makes a big sweatty spot on my back. Having it along is great for drinking, but what I really like is that you can hold the mouth piece down below the tank, squeeze, and the air turbulance will pull the water up and spray most of your upper body off. Sometimes I get a bit carried away and end up too cold.

Boots protect your feet and ankles. Pants are necessary but a lot of people simply wear jeans. At least get bionic knees and some bionic underwear in case you decide to slide on our ass/knees/hips.

I thought you were being a smartass.. As far as your question... I have no idea how fast a 200cc scooter is, but if you can ride it on the freeway, then its fast enough to justify pants and boots if you want maximum protection.
