fresh out of the box, mine had 31GB or so out of 40. not bad, but i wanted more just to have it. so i upgraded to a seagate 100GB @ 5400rpm. however, it dropped my battery life by about 30 minutes upgrading from 4200rpm.

expect mac osx to use about 3-4, but with everything preloaded it gets closer to 5-8..

you can re-install osx and take out the print files u dont need and the language packs.. will give u 1-2 gigs more space.. i would upgrade to atleast 60 or 80 personally..

on that subject is there any truth to the statement that once you empty the trash bin on Mac OSs the data's gone for good?

if you do a "secure empty trash" then it is supposedly gone for good. however a regular empty of the trash isn't. thats the difference.
