Like a bench shirt or squat suit in particular?

    Taken from the brag/complain thread:

Then I saw the guy actually bench one time and he put up 455 lbs.

While that's not something you see regularly in a commercial gym the guy was wearing a bench shirt, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, a belt that he had 2 people throwing their weight into tightening, and a 2 board. Unless you're competing I don't see the point of that shit, just curious :dunno:

Just wondering how much that shit actually helped him. gtlifter/nudes/bdr/pur/someone else? :x:

Using a shirt to 2 board bench press 455 pounds if you arent about 120 pounds is a bit retarded. But whatever.

I was going to say that the dude is smaller than me but not by much. I'd like to be able to say I could bench 455 even in a shirt because even most gym rats don't know how much it helps :o

Anyone care to guess how much this guy could bench completely raw?

comparing raw and shirted bench it apples to oranges....

First time I benched 500+ in a shirt I could barely grind out 300 raw because I trained the shit out of my triceps because all I cared about was shirted numbers.

Now if my shoulder would ever stop being gay I think I'm good for upper 300's raw but my shirted bench is still in the low 500's.

depends on the type of gear, single ply, multi, and the individual lifter. Some people can get 200 out of a shirt or more.

That guy could bench anywhere from 315-405 raw. Most people can figure out how to get about 100 pounds out of a shirt pretty quickly. It's getting 200-400 pounds out of it that's hard.

I can pull a trailored boat about 2 miles per hour, but with a truck I can go well over 50 miles per hour. Yeah, I'm cool.

It's fine for your average gym goer who competes occasionally

Sure it is. Exert my foot on a pedel and a lot happens. Exert myself on a bench and maybe 225 goes up. Exert myself with a shirt on while benching, and while pushing up what feels like 225, 315 goes up. Of course the load on the joints is greater at the begining, but the tension on the muscle is not. You are lifting more weight, but you have assistance.

    This would be cool assistance.

The first time I put a shirt on I benched 425. I think back the most I had done raw was 365, but I was probably good for 385-400. My first competition was a few months later and I benched my first 500. Raw by then was probably 405.

Within a year, in that same shirt, I benched 600 in the gym. I switched to a better shirt and hit 585 in competition, then 650 a couple months later. At the time I was probably a 425 raw bencher. At this point I was probably getting 200lbs out of my shirt.

I did some more training and my best gym bench was 705, done on one occasion and 700, which I did on two occasions, although I never did it in a meet. During those times my raw bench was 440, touch and go. You do the math on what I was getting out of my shirt, but it was a lot.

Cracking my forearm put an end to my bench shirt shenanigans and I decided to lift raw for a while. I think after I reach my goals raw I may go back in the shirt and see what damage I can do.
