Im guessing there's a minimum of 1000 active subscribers at the moment. Probably more :dunno:, but i'll use 1000 for this example.

It costs about 2 bucks a month to view the Offtopic Forum. That's 2,000 dollars a month.

Now many people still thinks that Fazle doesn't make any money off this but i still don't get it. Could it really cost him more then 2,000 dollars a month for this forum?

That's without including paid stickies, member services and advertisements.

It almost certainly costs him more than 2000 a month. However many boxes he has colocated, he's paying for the rack space, electricity, etc, and then the bandwidth, which is quite a bit.

I've worked out some estimates before, but it's been a while.

There are also the misc. fees that pop up. He's almost certainly had to get consultation advice from a lawyer over several things that have happened. Random other things, too.

it costs more than $2000 but he still makes a very decent profit of it. Think about it...OT broke even when he started selling ad space, since then he also started selling stickies, and premium memberships and vendor accounts.

I'd say easily about 8-10k a month he spends on the servers, space, bandwidth, and electricity a month.

But, how can anyone run a business for this long, that's costing them more than they make? That's ludacris!

I'm almost certain he said 6k in bandwidth per month about 4-5 months ago. I'm sure there are other fees as well

You've never seen the pics of the latest OT hardware? It was >$30k in hardware alone. The datacenter room has a couch and is completely private.

Eh, the site is pretty huge, but not that huge.

I really doubt hosting costs go above $1k a month.

he makes a ton of money from OT, any one who tries to sack ride him and say otherwise is a fucking retard.

they just want to downplay his success since they're pissed they didn't think of it first.
