I am pretty sure I am going to be buying a new sub and was wodering about this. I have always heard that you should have all ports 4" from any wall of the box ( assuming you are using a tube style port) to prevent any excess noise. Now this new sub has a mounting depth of 9" and I want to face the sub up towards my rear glass in my trunk. The thing is I have about 13" ( I think thats the height of my current box) of room and that would not leave much space. Now how would affect the sound or cooling for that matter with only 2" seperating them?

i'm not sure if that really is some kind of unwritten rule or not, but if you co look at pre-fab ported boxes at a store(like BB or CC or wherever) i can assure you they do not always conform to that 4" rule

    2" is plenty.
