I just saw a PSA on TV that said a first-time OUI cost $7,000. That seems high, but they factored in lawyer fees, fines, insurance, etc. I've always wondered what people have actually paid. Is it really that high?

The cost can be tremendously higher. Those who received DUIs (what they're called here) are lucky to be alive and lucky they haven't killed anybody else.
Drunk driving cost my aunt her life (and yes she was the drunk driver).

first for me was about 2500 without lawyers.

second about $7000 with a lawyer. Now I pay 275/mo for car insurance.

    Fuck drinking.

Well a DUI in Omaha (douglas county) depends on your attorney costs and honestly which judge you have. I work in probation and when someone has a DUI 1st offense they "normally" get court costs of 44 dollars, a fine of 400 dollars, license suspension for around 90 days (they have to pay 125 dollars to reinstate it), they normally have to take either an alcohol education class or a dui 1st offense class (the dui class is 160 dollars, and the alcohol education class varies but usually it's about 100 dollars), they have to pay for drug testing which is 5 dollars per month that they are on probation (usually 6 months so 30 dollars), they have to pay an enrollment fee of 30 dollars, and sometimes a monthly probation fee of 25 dollars per month they are on probation (again normally 6 months so 150 dollars).
