how much dextrose post w/o?

    How much dextrose do you guys have after your w/o?

    And is the point to cause an insulin spike and halt catabolism, similair to insulin, but to a much lesser/potent degree?

    100 grams, if you're bulking. The point is to refuel your muscles immediately so they don't catabolize to fuel their adaptation to the training load, and to deliver protein to them via an insulin spike, yes.

    Gotcha.. I only did 40g :hs: but now I'm having a 1lb can of baked beans.. plenty of sugar in that :o

    80g and 40g whey protien use iso agb since you get it for free!

    I'm actually the same as you 40g with 40g whey...but it's followed by a meal like an hour or 2 after

    What are you guys using as a source of Dextrose?

    Presently only drinking 8-16 ounces of gatorade and eating a banana..

    yeah. just started using it again today.. threw it in a half finished bottle of gatorade, ftw.

    Honestly, i read this a few times and I just can't get my head around it.

    Yes the point of the glucose in a post-workout shake is to increase your insulin levels. You should also put protein in the shake. The rise in insulin encourages cells to take up the glucose, along with the protein from your shake.

    By the way "insulin spikes" rarely happen. 40g glucose doesnt do a huge amount to your insulin levels. They rise, but they don't "spike." "Insulin spike" is just a stupid term made up by the supplement companies to sound hardcore.

    Insulin release can be stimulated by glucose, but also by protein/certain amino acids... is that what you means about lesser/less potent degree? :dunno:

    Also for the record, I use 50g glucose and 40g protein in my post-workout shakes. I do the glucose one first. I add plain glucose powder to some orange squash and down it. Then I make my protein shake with whey and milk.

    AAs and protein do elicit an insulin release but to a lesser extent. They also elicit a glucagon release though (the hormone that does the opposing job).

    Yup. Some do it better than others too. I can't remember which but I think arginine stimulates glucagon quite a lot. There are some that stimulate insulin quite well too.

    And if you run out, the next best thing around is probably gatorade powder. NOT the bottle stuff, teh powder. It has Sucrose and Dextrose as the main ingredients.

    I use 1/4 cup malto, 1/4 cup dextrose, 2 scoops whey, comes out to 50g i believe.
