I don't know....IF Kerry gets elected, passes all UN ammendments, we might be on the brink of firearms confiscation. I know I'd fight over that....what about you?

why DON'T you cache ammo? do you think it makes itself, or is always there? do you not forsee shortages, price increases, bans, SHTF? it's called being prepared. it's what responsible people do, so they don't have to be carried by the rest of the world in hard times. most firearm owners are the grasshopper, while a select few are the ant. if you never read that fable, you're an asshole, and you should slit your own wrists and jump in a bathtub.

After asking the question I was scared that you'd answer it like this.

No, I don't cache ammo. I use my guns for hunting, and target shooting when I feel like it. No, I don't forsee any mass shortages, I already pay out the ass for good ammo and plan on getting a reloading kit, I don't forsee any bans, and if the SHTF, I've always got some shotguns shells on hand.

And I disagree with your "most firearms owners are the grasshopper" statement, people like you, who evidently forsee Armageddon, represent a small percentage of overall firearm owners.

you obviously didn't read the fable as a kid. the grasshopper plays all year long, always having fun, making fun of the ant for working hard, while the ant works his ass off, stores up his food, and makes a nice little home for himself. when winter hits, the ant is nice and cozy, and with a full belly, and the grasshopper is out in the cold, a frozen bugsicle. MOST firearm owners are the grasshopper. they play, they shoot their ammo as fast as they buy it, they don't worry about the future. until the future becomes the present, and then they're wishing they'd paid attention to the ants around them. case in point: 1932 National Firearms Act, 1986 Manufacturing ban, 1989 importation ban, 1994 Assault Weapons Ban/Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Devices ban. firearm owners don't learn from their mistakes. they become complacent and forget that what's here one day may be illegal the next. it's not just a SHTF thing. you guys may not remember the days when wolf 7.62 was $69/1000, but i do. it was only two years ago. you might not remember the days when XM193 was plentiful. right now, Botach has NO IMI M193 in stock, and hasn't for a while. there are shortages everywhere, due to an extensive war and the gov't buying up a shitload of ammo. but, guess what? in yet another great move against firearm owners, the US gov't cannot surplus US military ammo back into the US. so, all that ammo you're not getting now? you won't see it again. prices are up, supply is down, and the gov't is fucking you, due to Bill Clinton's executive order that bush hasn't rescinded.

pay attention to the world around you. i don't just stick it away in case the world blows up. it's there in case i'm out of money, or prices skyrocket, or ammo gets more scarce, or something becomes illegal.

haha, fuck, I know the fable, I just confused the grasshopper with the ant :hs:

also, I don't follow the trends in 5.56, so I have no idea about current supply.

Funk, FWIW, I reload. I have more materials than you have ammo on hand; so, as far as cacheing ammo, I see no need. Now, hording supplies, maybe that's what you can say I do...

The whole "new world order" that people speak of is a long ways off. Being prepared is one thing, but being realistic is another. Give it a few more years of age and you'll understand. Reading all the hype on the web doesn't help those in the younger crowd who are easily swayed.

But, hey, free country and all, at least for now anyways. I'm like Goat -- I simply shoot paper and a critter every now and then. I've got enough range ammo on hand if anything were to happen, but do I forsee it in my lifetime? Nope.

Additionally, I've read the hoppergrasser and ant thing; good fable. Doesn't really fit here however. Para-military extremists with all the gear who dress up for fun always think this way; I am in no way surprised with your reaction to the posters with a more level head.

you guys keep focusing on the long-term aspect of ammo storage. you're ignoring all the other reasons, the ones that come into play NOW. when i buy ammo, i usually buy two cases at a time: one to shoot, one to store. that way, if i ever run out in a shortage, or if i need the ammo for whatever reason, can't afford it, etc., it's there. the side benefit is that if something catastrophic happens, it's there. i guess people who store weeks worth of food and water are also "paranoid"? because those "paranoid" people are the ones that everyone else begs for food and water when a hurricane or flood, or blizzard or other natural disaster hits and they can't get out to the store, and all their shit in their fridge or pantry has gone bad.
