GUN how many rounds should I be able to put through a 10-22 over its lifetime?

so I've been having problems with my 10-22. it jams, wont cycle fully. I've replaced the bolt handle recoil assembly (it was a little bent) and extractor. its still messed up though, you can hear the spring making a funny noise when you move the bolt back. I'm thinking it could be a problem with the receiver, I've easily put 15,000 rounds through it (I've had it for 15 years).

so what do you guys think? should I just give up on it and get a new one? the only reason I even tried to fix it is because my dad gave it to me when I turned 13, I could get a new bolt and receiver but that costs more than a new gun :mamoru:

Have you looked inside the receiver/at the bolt itself? Notice any strange wear marks, or points of impact?

When the gun jams, is it short cycling? What happens during the "jam"?

I suppose anything is possible (these are cheap cast alloy receivers), but FWIW I've never seen a 10/22 "shot out" and I know of a couple guns with double/triple the round count as yours that still shoot bugholes.

yeah the bolt has some wear marks on it, its short cycling. I don't have the gun with me right now so I cant tell you exactly where the marks are. I know the bolt handle recoil assembly (metal rod the spring goes on) was bent and I replaced it but the spring (the stock spring) seems stiff and makes a funny noise when you cycle it by hand. I could try a weaker spring, I have a spare so I can always try cutting a few coils off my old one and see if it helps.

what mags are you using. more specifics on the malfuntion. Is it a failure to feed. the round goes part way in and stops, or jams on the barrel face?

    Cool story.

  9. My GF bought a 10/22 and the trigger on it was all fucked up, it felt like it was full of sand. She called Ruger and they sent her a new trigger right away.

I'm not a gun expert - but i've dealt with Ruger's "warranty" more than the average person.

no, but I don't see how that would make a difference. I did put a pellet gun scope on it for like an hour once

stock mag (I even got a new one) and a shitty plastic one, doesn't make a difference. but a shot will fire after I chamber a round and the bolt wont fully cycle and the gun doesn't re cock. it almost seems like there isn't enough force from the last shot to re chamber the next round.

They were very pleasant when I called them and took my word for it that the trigger was fucked up. You probably just come off as a prick on the phone as much as you do on the internet.:mamoru:

That's a lot like what mine was doing. Do you know anyone who has a 10/22 that works? You could troubleshoot the trigger assembly by replacing it. If it's not working, there's no reason they shouldn't send you another one. Have you tried different types of ammo?

Sometimes people will screw down the scope mount too far and the screws will stick into the reciever and bind up the bolt.

yes I do! a friend just bought a brand new one. so I'll do that next time we both make it out to the range together, fuck I can't believe I hadn't thought of that :o...:bigthumb: if I throw his guts in my gun and it still doesn't work then its gotta be my reciever. if not it should be an easy fix.

though I would like to get one in a .22mag :eek3: but my girl friend kinda wants a rifle so I can always get her one regardless...unless I can convince her she really wants an ar-15 :mamoru:

really? shit, I didn't even know that was possible but I don't think thats the case since it was working fine till about a year ago but if I ever put a scope on it I'll make sure not to screw in down too tight :)
