    Fucking in.

My gf bought me a couple suits for x-mas and I brought them to get tailored.

Because of the size coat I need for my shoulder width, the suit comes with size 39w pants.

I went and got measured and whatnot and they're taking my coat in by a considerable amount and they have to do a total recut on my pants. :bowrofl:

Not to mention I can see how the shit can start to get pricey if you buy a lot of suits or if you're constantly adding / cutting a decent amount of mass.

I had Men's Warehouse tailor the suits seeing as though the suits are from there, but would I be better off going to a private tailor?

If you get suits with nice fabrics, private tailors can often end up being cheaper. Just make sure the guy knows what he's doing.

Macy's and Nordstroms did a decent job for my suits. They probably sent it out to the Korean guy and charged me extra.

If you aren't a Korean lady with crooked teath you aren't touching my suits. Most private korean dry cleaners do tailoring as well. My buddy goes to one where he just drops his shit off and picks it up all done, no remeasuring, and they just bill his cc on file.

All suits should be tailored even if you buy the right size or 9/10 times they will look like dogshit.

And it looks like next time I'm going to look into having a private tailor take a look.

See if I can save me some monies.

taking your coat in a "considerable amount" and a "total recut" on the pants means you have a shit tailor.

it sounds like this is yoru first time buying a suit; so never let your GF do that. Always go in and try on the suits and talk with the tailor that will be doing the work and have him make the measurements.

Also, you shouldn't be buying suits off the rack like that from a Men's Warehouse type place. If you are looking at 39in pants that would mean the coat is either 46 or 48 and for them to take out nearly 20 inches is going to alter the entire look of the coat. If they have to take out 7 inches on the pants then the pockets are going to look strange in the back, and the side pockets will be flared out like rabbit ears.

Next time, do yourself a favor and do it right.

They said because of my waist size that it will throw the look of the coat off if I don't have it taken in.

Also, they explained to me their process with the pants and the pockets and whatnot and they take the the pants apart so they have all the sections apart and then cut each section to bring the whole thing in.

I'm assuming they know what they're doing because if it turns out like how you've said then there would be a lot of pissed off stupid looking people in the professional world.

I pick them up today so we'll see how it looks. :)

I'd probably have another couple suits for work but the tailoring is so annoying. Finding a size 52 suit and then pretty much remaking it :ugh:

The only thing I've ever had to get tailored are/were jeans. Always too long.

I don't mind having them tailored but I hate waiting the week it takes to get them back.

Thankfully I have a long way to go until I need shirts tailored.

It sounds like you're shit was the wrong size to begin with, like J said. I get shit altered all the time, but not to that extent if fitted properly from the beginning.
