I'm 17 female, im 150lbs, and 5'7. I just started goin to the local YMCA yesterday..I'm gonna start going for an hour a day on wednesday-sundays. I've been eating subway instead of my regular fastfood here recently, (bout 2 weeks or so) and also been eating oatmeal for breakfast, and crackers for a snack, or a banana...is this a good start? how long will it take for me to see results? Im currently a size 11-13, and also, what gym equipment should i use for the problem areas on my body? (im looking to target my butt-aka making it more "bubbly", my thighs, defining my calves, and getting rid of love handles.) im okay with the upper part. It's really gonna change my life if i can achieve the body i want, i feel i will be overall a lot happier with myself. Anyone with advice, thank you!

It takes a different amount of time for everyone. I noticed the majority of my results in only two weeks and now they've leveled off.

Most people will say about 6 weeks, if you keep it up.

I'm not much help since I only run, but that personally works great for me. I eat about 6 times a day, small snacks/meals. I try to limit my carbs after 4 or 5:00.

Other people in here can give you way better advice than I can.

    *1200-1400 calories a day.
I'd personally eat in small 200 - 300 calories meals every 3 hours or so. Keeps that metabolism kicking.

*Green, leafy vegetables (stay away from potatoes)
    *boiled or grilled meats
    *NOTHING fried or breaded
*whole wheat bread if you must (stay away from white rice)
    *Water, water, water
*multivatimins, fish oil caplets, and fiber supplements
*Consistency in exercising and eating habits. Make your pulse MOVE, sweat, bust your ass. Obviously don't kill yourself and overdo it, but make sure you get a good workout.

There are some Sticky posts about basics of losing weight that are great. :bigthumb:

Good luck! You've got a good, realistic goal ahead of you, and I think it'll take you two or three months tops. If anything, you're bound to lose at least 10 pounds.

eat less more times/day (i.e. 5 small meals instead of 2 big meals)
breakfast is big... try to eat something w/ carbs for breakfast... oatmeal's good
    diet is EXTREMELY important
    exercise (cardio AND weight lifting)
you can't spot reduce fat, so if you're looking to "tone up" your problem areas, you're going to be wasting your time if you do 5,000 curls with 2.5 lb. weights
keep at it... too many "day 1's" will kill you... it's a process and it can't be done overnight, but if you keep at it, it'll be a lot faster
read through the F&N archives when you get the chance... some good stuff in there

    any more questions?

Very self conscious. I was flabby and just not what I wanted to be. In just one month I'm so much happier and am almost ready to show my body off a bit. :o

Stick to these foods and you'll lose it in no time. You should be having a source of lean protein with every meal (it looks right now like all your food choices are carbohydrates).

    Carbohydrates (Vegetables):
    Asparagus
    Broccoli
    Okra
    Cauliflower
    Green Beans
    Brussel Sprouts
    Peas
    Cucumber
    Squash
    Collard greens
    Mushrooms
    Zucchini
    Lettuce
    Salads
    Peppers, green or red
    Tomatoes, pasta sauce, salsa
    Spinach
    Kale

    Carbohydrates (Fruits):
    Apples
    Unsweetened applesauce
    Blueberries
    Oranges
    Raspberries
    Berries
    Nectarines
    Plums
    Grapes
    Peaches
    Cantaloupe
    Grapefruit
    Pears

    Lean Proteins:
    Chicken breast, Turkey breast
Fish (Flounder, Haddock, Salmon, Orange Roughy, Cod, Tuna etc.)
    Shellfish (Lobster, shrimp, Clams, etc.)
Lean Red Meat (Flank Steak, Round Steak, extra lean sirloin)
    Eggs/Egg whites
Low or non fat dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.)

    Fats
Fish oil capsules, nuts & seeds, flaxseed oil (ground flaxseed is even better)

She's from Ohio, anywhere is better then Ohio.

If you want a nice butt and want to lift weights you need to squat, and not on a machine/smith rack. Also, barbell squats will help with your "love handles" as they will increase your base metabolism, assuming that you are eating properly. Also, the stairmaster is a great form of cardio for what your looking to do. If your going to be working the lower part of your body you might as well work the upper or you may end up looking disproportional.
