Say you are an ex-professional bodybuilder, in your late 20s or possibly early 30s, have put on a quite a lot of fat due to bad diet and not a lot of exercising. You weigh somewhere around 250lbs (very much ballpark...) right now.

You have a need to drop 33lbs as quickly as possible and you know how to diet properly, you've been in many competitions, and you are going to give it a shot.

How long would you expect it might take to achieve this, without worrying about losing muscle mass - just 33lbs on the scale?

A professional bodybuilder wouldn't have to ask this question

I'm well aware of that - if I were talking about myself, I'd probably also know how much I weigh, wouldn't I?

He has made a bet with a friend of mine that he can lose 33lbs quicker than my friend can lose 16 - I reckon he can do it quite easily, but want to know exactly what kind of time we're talking about here

theres too many factors to ever answer this question. if i were to diet it down from 290 and take some diuretics I'd probably drop 20-25 lbs in a few days

Okay so what I can distill from the helpful replies is that this guy would easily be able to drop 33lbs in 5 weeks, by whichever means he felt appropriate.

Pur would best be able to answer this question. I don't think anybody else (maybe Ray) would know anything about dropping 30+lbs of weight.

Pur lost about 20lbs in a few days at the hospital recently, so it could be done pretty quickly.

    this is so unpossible

ex-pro bodybuilder at 25-30 years old? Would we know his name? IFBB or Natural League?

you sure this guy isn't sandbagging your friend for some cash, like a body weight hustler?

in either event, if the guy has years of training and your friend is a noob, the 33lbs may be a winning bet

Just cutting weight for wrestling or MMA, 33 pounds is hard, but doable.

I really don't know mate, he used to compete in Australia about 10 years ago or so...

He is absolutely massive and clean, but I don't think his name would ever have made it out of Aus

while in wrestling or mma i can understand cutting weight for a fight, in a sport like strongman where records of strength are held and broken at various weight categories, i don't understand cutting weight like that.

i mean yea, it's cool as a 250lber to go in and wreck the guys @ 220, but honestly, does anyone really even think for 1 second kroc weighs 220?

    just kinda silly

that's a pretty contradictory statement... why would it be ok to use weight to your advantage in a fighting competition but not ok to do the same in a strength sport?

What is base weight and what is the weight goal???? What is the reason to to drop the weight?

Are we looking at temporary weight loss or permanent...

There are too many variables to say yay or nay.

I go from about 215 to 176 in about 16 weeks. That is also including water weight.
