I extended my enlistment for another 6 years :wiggle: . $15,000 bonus before tax, and a pencil.

I no longer care about ETS dates. My concern is retirement.

I ETS 29 march 2011. I have no plans to reup and it would take quite a lot to get me to reenlist. I'm going to make a lot more money in the civilian sector.

 You most be in comm. I would bet you're either a satcomm or a network programmer. You and the rest of the delusional thousands are going to ETS and make 85K a year starting.

89 days. I already have my countdown on my computer favorites at work, that same website too. But I've been counting down since around 200 some days.

    In that case, 36 days.

After you deduct health insurance, dental insurance, and taxes due to being in a higher tax bracket you will make pretty much the same as a E5 with 8 years in.

lol brack you gotta remember not everyone in here is Air force
civillian sector is like the af imo hahah

but ya.. i always laugh at the taxes i pay since only my base pay is taxed and everything else i get is tax free

45k shit i made over that last year and most of it wasnt taxable as a 7 year e5

but I would be able to reup in june 22 08 which is around the time I leave england
im counting down to retirement though 20 years for me more depends on rank but I dont think ill stay much after that
job could be less stressful then it is now but i dont like politics
well i like that type of shit becuase i would love to be able to fight for my people and help younger guys
thats just my nature but i know some of the bs that goes on just from being in trouble a lot when i was at lower ranks

I have been in the Army, worked a white collar job, and am now serving in the Air Force. Civilian life doesn't compare to the military in any manner. Even your beloved AF doesn't compare to the corporate image is so admires. First off civilians have horrible work ethics. Being 45 minutes late 3 days in a row is no big deal. Secondly my supervisor in the military never said "either come into work Saturday or I will hire someone that will". Lastly there is no job satisfaction in the civilian sector. People come to work, do as little as possible, and clock out. Office Space wasn't fictional.
For the people that think they will do what they want when they want as a civilian you need to wake up and realize that you will always have a boss, rules, and limitations on your personal time.

What a lot of military people don't realize is that $20 an hour equals 42K a year. Like you said a E5 without that many years in service makes more than that. Throw in the cost of health care, dental care, and the higher tax bracket and your take home pay isn't that impressive. For those wondering $20 an hour jobs are not as easy to come by as you think. Do not believe Johnny Millionaire that told you he got out and is now make 85K a year working for Globalcomm. Let me add that as a married employee without kids I paid $135 a paycheck for medical and $35 a paycheck for dental.

Without having to wear a uniform, being able to work out when I want, not having to use last names all the time or stand a certain way when talking to certain people, not having to move every few years, being able to quit if you find a higher paying job, etc. etc. etc.

And who the fuck is still an e-5 after 8 years?

You are in for a rude awakening if you get a real job. Office politics and protocol are not military specific.
