this mainly applies to laptops, because you really have limited choices on swapping hardware components out on a laptop

i was wondering how long it will be before you are permanently stuck with having to have vista installed because your mobo or something doesn't have windows xp drivers available

obviously i can still buy a nic or a video card that have drivers for windows 2000, even 98/95 in some cases. i just really like winxp and don't want to move to vista for a long time

then again, linux/osx is always a good choice :naughty:

I don't think it is going to happen. Hardware and software creators see the resistance that the community is putting against vista and no one is going to abandon xp completely until the majority of users do which likely won't happen until the next offspring of windows.

I don't know, but when that day comes, you'll start hearing about a string of suspicious deaths of CEOs of electronics manufacturers.

I've noticed a lot of threads in the past month or so about trouble getting drivers when going from a Vista built machine back to XP.

There is a team working on it now, they have it partially done but still have a ways to go last time I checked.

It's certainly shaping out to be that way. While Vista was built to be more advanced of it's predecessor than ME was (options, hardware capabilities, etc...), it's looking more and more like it will suffer a similar fate. Only real difference here is that Microsoft is pushing Vista waaaay harder than any OS before.

The only thing I like about Vista was the start menu and the new sounds theme. I had ME for a long time before I got into computers and realized how bad it sucked.

    1. I still use the Classic start menu.
    2. You actually use the sounds?
