I have been doing the Bill Starr not assiociated with Christopers what so every routine (better a-bomb?) for the past few months and have started doing front squats instead of the light squat/lunges that the routine calls for.

My question is; how do you do these? I tried doing it with my wrists bent backwards and the bar on my shoulders and this killed my wrists. They even hurt for the next day. I also tried it with my arms crossed over the bar with the bar again resting on my shoulders. I was only doing maybe 150lbs and my shoulders hurt like hell for the rest of the workout from the bar resting on there, so I doubt I could ever go up in weight with these.

I really liked doing them and would like to continue with them, but do you just have to deal with the pain from the bar on your shoulders, or am I doing them wrong?

On a side note; since this routine is squats three times a week, would adding some biking/cardio on the between days be too much/over training for the legs? Maybe like 30 minutes for the two off days; tues and thurs.

I don't really care about weight loss at this point, it would just be nice for health reasons.

Hold your elbows higher up if you do it like you mentioned the first time, that way there is less stress on the wrists. Or if you do it crossed just secure the bar with you hands. When I rest it on my shoulders they dont hurt at all :dunno:

hmm...i guess i just need to get used to them, today was my first real day trying. I had the bar right on the beginning of my shoulder muscle, maybe i need it further out. I cant believe how much harder and how much less I could lift doing them.

Move the bar almost up to you neck. So yeah further back on the shoulder muscle.

The pain will go away. I've always done them with my arms crossed. it hurts for a little while but eventually its nothing.

Its like back squats. Remember how much it hurt the first time?

    Don't be a pansy.

Rest the bar on your front delts and the top of your chest just below your clavical. You can do a sort of "catch" grip, or do what most people (non olympic lifting people) do and just cross your arms over it, securing with the hands, and keeping the elbows up.

Yeah, that's true. Now that I think about it, back squats hurt for the first week or so when I first started. I was just worried that I might have been doing them wrong, since I have never seen anyone at my gym do them I wasn't exactly sure what they looked like.

    Thanks for the advice everyone.

i do shoulders the day before legs, so it still kills. Either way the idea is to take the focus off of my grip and onto my quads. We shall see hummer boy:naughty:
