If you're progressing well and making gains then don't rest. I usually rest only when I've hit a plateau and can't get past it after a couple of weeks.

rest is needed for a variety of reason. Rest between training cycles (if done correctly) keeps you from hitting a plateau in the first place.

8 weeks isnt really that long, but if you feel like you're lagging in the gym then take a few rest days or even a whole week.

Ah, well listen to your body and assess how you feel then go from there.

you know how to structure your training so breaks aren't needed though.
