Actually spent two hours but who's counting. Local business hired me to shoot some shots of them during a board meeting and then some head shots for their website.

The board meeting shots were boring but I shot about 30 or so shots. Then I got them all out of the conference room and did this shot in about 5 minutes

Same shot but with the side light brought around to the front for more fill

    examples of boring meeting shot.

I then did the head shots in another room. I spent less than 3 minutes with each person and produced shots that look like this.

pretty typical straight forward stuff but it was a nice way to spend my lunch hour and pick up enough $$$ to pay for my new wireless head sets and pocketwizard bracket.

    :bigthumb:

edit: worked the group shot a bit in PS to get rid of the shadow on asian girl and lighten the faces a bit.

These were all shot with two off camera speedlights. The key light was fired thru my homemade beauty dish. The back/side light was fired thru a small photoflex softbox.

bummer the asian chick on the right is so short and got that shadow on her face... good shot though. Not a bad way to make a cool two fiddy.

Yeah. If I'd had about 10 minutes or so to set up my studio lights I could have done a better job. The lobby shots were a last minute idea I had so I had to rush it.

either your shutter speed was too low or you miss the dof.

Guys in the back are blurry

I feel like the lady in two closest ladies to the centerman are getting cut off to much. Maybe if each group of 4 would have moved out just enough to get some dead space between the sides of their face and his body, but not so much that there is any space between their bodies and his body.

You guys have to realize that the group shot wasn't planned. It was a last minute thing that I had less than five minutes to set up and shoot because one of the gentlemen had to leave. Yes, it's not perfect but given the time restraints I think it turned out well.

The guys in back are a bit blurry due to the wide aperture I was using. That's due to the fact that I didn't have time to do a proper job of setting up and lighting the shot how I would have liked to light it. Also, I would have needed my tripod to use a longer shutter speed and I simply didn't have the time to set it up.

    there's your problem.

a shot like this should probably be taken at at least F8 and 1/100 to ensure most people are sharp/ in focus. I usually shoot for 1/250 because someone is always figiting.

you said you had 2 speedlights and 2 other lights, getting enough light there to shoot at F8 and 1/250 should have been fairly easy.

maybe you shot at 1/50 capture the ambient, but i guess I'd rather not have the ambient than have someone be blurry/ soft.

    just my opinion though.

I really like the composition, it's different and pretty

Thanks. I needed to capture the ambient in order to make the shot work. I had to balance my strobes output with the ambient. The other two lights I had were in my camera bag and not used because I only brought up two light stands and two modifiers, again because this was not a planned shot. Besides, if you look closely, only the dude on the far right is oof. That's due more to my crappy 16-35 lens not being sharp on the edges than dof.

True, I definitely think the ambient adds something. And don't get me wrong, for a quick unplanned shot this is very well done :wiggle:

I think the ambient looks good here and is worth capturing. The guys in the back aren't enough out of focus/blurry to kill the shot, imo.

Good job. I'm sure they like it and you have $250, so winrar.

The board room shots look just like the ones I see in corp mailings I get at work. The group shot as you said wasn't planned and it turned out pretty good. I'd almost bump the darker colors a little (all those business suits make it hard,) but its still pretty usable.

Bottom line is the client loved the shot. I sent him the group shot along with the invoice and got this reply back:

    Hi Jim,

Thanks for this price! The quality of the photos far exceed my expectations. I will be sure to tell others about you.

    Thanks,
    David
