I have an old Apple Mini and although it's been a good computer it's hardly powerful enough for a page full of GIF images on this site anymore so I'm looking to upgrade.

I've come up with a standard Studio Desktop with:

    -Pentium Dual core 2.5ghz
    -4gb DDR2 800
    -Integrated X4500 HD
    -500gb hd
-Blu-Ray reader and DVD/CD burner drive

Nothing fancy, worth the $584? I realize I could build a computer with those specs for cheaper, but I only have Win XP on CD so after I factor in the few hundred dollars for Vista (this has a free upgrade to Win 7), it's going to cost more.

If you're a student and have an .edu email, you can pre-order windows 7 for $30. That way, you can be smart and build it yourself for less and probably better

If you have an email through your school, most have access to MSDN and you can download Windows 7 for free. I got mine a few weeks ago. Installed in 16 minutes on my laptop.

Eh maybe. I seen a Dell special a couple months ago with AMD quad core setup for less $429 with same specs. If you watch dell specials you can catch some good ones they usually come out on a weds and only last for three days if that. I think thats pricey since I have seen so many better dell setups at a less price but depends on your patience and budget I guess.

try the dell outlet. My brother got a pc off of their less than a year ago. If they didn't say it was refurbished/returned you would never know. i was there when it arrived and I pulled it out of the box. It was perfectly new.

Appears to still be there for me:

Read the slickdeals thread on it to figure out how to get Windows 7 Pro for the same price.

Also, note that this is an upgrade so you must have a copy of XP or Vista. The ugrade however operates differently than previous Windows upgrade versions. With the Windows 7 upgrade, you can still do a clean install of Win7.
