My computer crashed again and I decided I am not going to have a new one built and have to deal with all the B.S. dealing with the software.

Found a HP at CompUSA with

AMD 64/ Dual Core 3700 plus
    1GB memory
    250g HD
Nvida G Force card (dont remember the specs but Im not a gamer)
    DVD RW drive

    all for 599.99

    How does this sound

The CPU itself costs half as much as that entire computer. There HAS to be a LOT of cheap parts in that machine. Don't bother with it.

Never buy a bargain-basement computer; they ALWAYS cut corners, and you will ALWAYS have to replace broken parts after a couple of years, if not sooner.

The CPU is good, I like HP but it's a consumer level PC you'd be getting from CompUSA.. Go to www.hp.com and look at their business class PCs then look to see what's running as specials. I bought P4 PCs loaded for $399 lately.

I didn't know AMD made a 3700+ dual core. :hsughno:

I don't think buying a new computer is the most cost effective way to solve your problems (unless the old one is really old). $600 is alot to me, and I'd rather invest my time in pinpointing the problem and seeing if it can be prevented. Describe the crashes you're having. What might be causing it, what happens when it crashes, blue screen? Maybe someone here can help.

Put all the parts together. Install XP. Install drivers. Install only the applications you will use. Where is the BS? :hsughno:

Computer turns on but windows does not power up. It starts beeping after a few min. and will not stop.

All of this started when it was stuck in sleep mode and I could not get it out of it so I shut the computer down.

At least you're honest. Truth be told, probably half of the people here are violating their EULAs. You can get security patches through Automatic Updates; for Microsoft to deny pirates the basic security patches would be to destabilize a large portion of the internet -- not a wise move.

For $137 you can buy an OEM copy of XP on www.newegg.com. If your current computer is good enough to keep and you want to repair and legitimize it, this is your best bargain. If you want an entirely new computer, that's a different issue altogether.

it's cheaper than $137... You can get XP legit for under $100.

    Thanks for the link

The CPU was built in 02 by a friend of mine and has worked perfect until recently. I lost a HD with ALL of my music and videos. I had my OS on the other HD so it was still working up till a few days ago. I really dont know what to do. I am so damn frustrated at this point

I dont know how to put these things together so I am kinda at a loss because I can use my case and buy new guts
