How does OT gun crew carry when you're in your car?

I carry my Sig 229 DAK in a CompTac CTAC IWB holster which I absolutely love, but for long car rides it's the most uncomfortable thing on earth not to mention the fact that when I have my seatbelt on I cannot access it very well at all, so I believe that carrying on my person while in the car is neither a good idea for comfort or the possibly where I may need my weapon quickly.

So how else can I carry while in the car? Mounting one of those SmartSafes is a no-go in a car like my Subaru WRX STI.

Is there any sort of extremely secure holster that I can mount underneath the dashboard or somewhere under the steering column or something to that effect? I do not want a safe for the car, but some sort of mountable holster that is extremely secure.

I found a system sold by DeSantis called the Kingston Car Seat Holster which looks like EXACTLY what i'm looking for, but it attaches directly to the seat and i'm not sure if it will work on the STI's seats or not. Here is a link to it... http://www.desantisholster.com/n92.html

Besides the DeSantis Kingston Car Seat Holster, does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?

    Thanks!

when traveling, i have to keep it in a locked container in the trunk, separate from the ammunition.
From what I've read, people who CCW in cars like the cross draw (on your person). It's not akward like if it was on your right side or small of your back. This assumes you're right handed and you cross draw will point out the door.

usually just keep it IWB, occationally when traveling alone I've found my BUG in it's pocket holster fits perfectly in the seam between the side bolster and seat bottom. You just have to find the right combination. Heck I even carry IWB when I'm driving the race car with a Sparco bucket to events.

..............but I think I'm gonna rig my useless XD Gear holster and mount it on the inside of my center console, instead of just laying it in there.

I need to do this too. Gonna try to rig a holster under the dash or something like that.

yeah, I'm not gonna use that POS holster for anything else, why not. I got the idea from somebody on here who mounted it to the side of their computer desk, looked pretty

:werd: same here. Center console can be a pain if you need to get to it quick my cd changer is in there so its narrow reaching down in there, and door pocket is to low on the exploder, use to keep it there in my integra.

Tough call for me. I drive a Ford Ranger.. and I'm left-handed.

I'd like to find/make something that would strap to the seat & have it right there beside my left leg on the vertical part of the seat.

Wedged between the console and seat FTW.
My 1911 fits there perfectly and it even wedges in just right so that if I draw the holster stays put and the weapon comes out nicely.

My KelTec pretty much lives in the center console though so it is always relatively handy. Quite often I put it next to the E-brake though, there's a little dish under it so with it slide side down the grip sticks upand rests against the brake handle.

I'm a lefty too, but I'm used to shifting into 4HI and 4LO with my right hand, plus engaging the e-brake, my hand rests on the butt of my Steyr when it's wedged in right. Plus the map pocket on the door has my mechanix gloves and some other tools in it :o

In the 2.5rs my XD SC fits snugly muzzle down in the center consol. It spends most days in the door of my F-250, though.
