i need a good walkaround. my current 28-80m was meant for film cameras, so it's like a 43-122 on my sensor. not wide enough for my likes, but it's such a sharp lens and is great for macro....also it was like $55 on amazon refurbished by nikon. but if i get the 17-70 it's sharp, versatile, and does macro. slightly more in the cost department

I have it and love it. The only thing that sucks is its not a fixed 2.8. Other than that I use it as a "walk around" lens. Im thinking of selling it and get a 24-70 f/2.8L, since I have the tokina 12-24 f/4

I like mine a lot I agree though sucks its not a fixed 2.8 but for the price it can't be beat, maybe someday I'll upgrade to the 24-70 f2.8L
