Sup F&N. I've recently started going to the gym with a buddy of mine. I wake up 530-600 am to get to this gym at 7 and work my ass off until 8 (and now that I'm starting summer classes at 9 am, it has to be done by 8)

I'm a small guy. About 5'5/5'6, and I weigh 120. I'm not looking to be BB big over night and I understand this will take dedication but hell man I'm ready to commit. I'm just having trouble finding out and figuring out whats up with the food intake and other factors.

I'm really new to fitness, I've always had friends and family involved in it but never became a part of being fit myself and now I'm tired of being the weak skinny dude, not that I have anything against skinny dudes but change is in order.

So f&n crew, I'm ready for you to pump (clap) me up! Lay it on me.

you should mention in the first post that your diet is severely restricted because you cannot process phenylalanine.

that being said, i would not rely on F&N for this type of information, your better bet would to see a doctor or a nutritionist.

what does your typical diet consist of?

That's one for the doctor mate; from my quick research, there seems to be a mixed consensus or dietary requirements in adults. ( http://www.zuidencomm.nl/njm/getpdf.php?id=10000403 )

Whilst I can't speak for muscle hypertrophy (growth) there is no reason why you can't gain a shit load of strength.

is your body ok to process as much leucine, isoleucine, and valine as it wants? or will large amounts of any amino acid hurt you?

phenylalanine, like every other amino acid, is going to be found in every protein-rich food such as meats, chicken, fish, whey, etc.

Whether or not elevated phenylketone is bad in fully developed adults is a question for the doctor.

its not like that... its actualy HARMFUL if he intakes phenylalanine. that means meat, dairy, and many beans/nuts are out.

i wonder if any company makes/distills whey with it taken out...

Carbs; Rice, Bread, Potatoes(fries, this as fatty as it gets though) Cereal. Then to drink it varies between soda, juice and water.

I don't know why its important, I take a medication 3 times a day that gives me all the nutrients that I don't get from eating other foods. Much like a supplement substitute .

My friend does it, I'm really enjoying getting up early and starting my day with a nice work out, its out the way and it helps me wake up. IF you get a good nights rest.

My body is fine processing all other amino acids. It's just that one that's got me all screwed up.

This may sound odd, but I'd look into what they use in baby formulas for pku babies. Could work well as a pre post workout shake.

This. BCAA are more expensive, but if it's a source you can take then it may be worth it. Does anyone know is any of these naturally convert to phenylalanine in the body?

Also, can you take a tyrosine supplement, since it's not converting naturally? Or is tyrosine a problem as well? What about glutamine? It's one of the less expensive amino acid supplements.

And don't take this the wrong way, but are you mildly retarded? (it's supposedly a symptom)

It can be a symptoms if its undetected, but I know in Australia at least that every baby born has a pku heal prick test performed (unless the mother refuses, which some retards do...omg its to stressful for my baby).

I already take tyrosine as a supplement. I'm not too sure about glutamine and no, I'm not mildly retarded. Though I'm not the sharpest knife in the kitchen but I do what I can.
