I live in TX, dont have a CHL, and going to and from range and will have a rifle case and range bag that used to fit in my trunk. I have a truck now that is a 4 door one, but obviously no trunk, how would I transport them without them being considered concealed?

you probably have to do something stupid like put all the ammo in the front of the truck and have the case and bag locked somehow and in the back seat.

Does this mean I am in the clear as long as I am not committing a felony

It depends on your state law. In Illinois I just have to keep the guns in a zipped case unloaded. I can have loaded mags in the same case as long as they're not in the gun.

If you're doing interstate travel they need to be unloaded and in a locked case if you want federal protection, otherwise it needs to be in accordance with the laws of the state you're in.

In texas, you can have a conceal weapon in your vehicle without a CHL as long as you can legal own that weapon, and aren't in the process of commiting a felony. So just keep it out of view if it's a handgun, nothing else matters. Y2K that quote you posted speaks the truth on this matter..

Damn, everyday I am happier that I live in Colorado. No transport requirements besides no long guns with a round in chamber.

That's not even a requirement in texas... The only requirement in texas is that you have be legally able to own a firearm, and you can't have a handgun in plain view... Gun racks for rifles/shotguns are OK! :wavey::wavey:

EDIT: and don't be in the process of commiting a felony, or a member of a street gang...

He never said he wished he had a trunk just asked what to do since he owns a truck, and trucks dont have trunks, your truck has a trunk you automatically lose :mamoru:

Most Sherrifs and Police Jurisdictions have said they will STILL arrest individuals without permits irregardless of the new law amendment.

    5.4 I'm gonna guess?

And if you still want something like a trunk, get a Bedrug and a Truxedo bedcover. The bedrug can be pressurewashed, withstands acid/chemical spills, etc.

hmm... I seem to remember being told you had to have a CHL basically to carry concealed in TX because the law never defined what "traveling" was.

Not too big of a deal now since I got my CHL though.

Just make sure the gun is not loaded and maybe put a trigger lock in it. Just get a CHL and all that shit goes away :o
