I'm confused on how you can get the DOF, wheel blur, and crisp car all at once... what is going on here... anyone care to elaborate?

    Thanks in advance. :)

yeah, usually they attach underneath the car, then they just PS the poles out. There are a few auto guys on here who could probably give you a better explanation of how it's done

thats easy from certain angles, but some shots ive seen are just way too hard to get right, especially if they can just shoot it like that.

you can tell though on the above pic that the tailights are chopped, so maybe a magic arm rig was attached there?

Rigs aren't hard at all, just long pipes and suction cups. Also remember that triangles are strong, so triangulate your rig whenever possible to minimize vibration and deflection/flex.

    www.Automotiverigs.com (for full car rigs)
www.filmtools.com (for partial car rigs - shown below)

    look at these for ideas:

    Examples:

    Some things I've learned:
    - The tubes need to be aluminum or stainless steel for minimum flex in a long tube.
    - The car should only be moving a few MPH, or should be pushed by hand, to minimize vibration. (speed is an illusion)
    - Use an ND4 or ND8 filter to get shutter speeds low enough to get the speed illusion during the day.
    - If you can use a very wide angle prime to get as much car in as possible.
    - Trigger the camera with a remote control (Pocket Wizard) or cable release. I actually use a cable release with an extension cable.
    - To aid in removing a complex rig from the final photo, take another photo of the car without the rig attached from the position the camera will be in, in the final image then layer and mask in Photoshop.
    - Practice, practice, practice, and then practice a lot more.
    - The triangulated rigs are a HUGE pain in the ass to work with, and somewhat limiting on the shots you can get.
-Don't put borders an copyrights on your images like I did in these. It's not OTAP pro, ya heard? :mamoru:

    Good luck.

Fuck. I made a non sarcastic post. I think I'm gonna be sick. :hs:
