For example, I'm trying to open a file in Illustrator, but it must be corrupt or something because the spinning beachball just sits there spinning and the file never opens. So I have to force quit Illustrator and find a different solution. In older OSs, you could simply hit command+period, it would cancel whatever action is currently processing and you could move on. It wouldn't quit the application, just that action. Is there a way to do this in OSX that isn't too involved or does one have to force quit and redirect?
