I've had a friend tell me this multiple times and I've heard some girls say it quite a few times too so I know it isn't uncommon. What do you usually say to this?

    are they calling you cocky?

    short end of it:

people will forget what you say, but not how you make them feel. (bolded cause those are words to live by)

if you are a force to be reckoned with when you enter a room and dominate the conversation but leave everyone laughing and feeling respected/interesting/pretty/whatever then you are fine.

its not the cockiness that turns normal people off, its the way some fake-confident people make other people feel small in order to appear big.

we need the context of this. Are they saying you're cocky like you're an asshole, or just that you have too high of self esteem?

Basically, when they say it, do they mean it as a good thing, or a bad thing? Like a minor thing, or a major thing?

A joke, or a true insult?

Exactly. If you're making them laugh, showing that you're truely confident and comfortable, ect. you're good.

What these girls mean is that they don't like cocky guys that are losers in every other aspect.

I'm not really sure. I'm definitely not an asshole and i'm almost always joking or being sarcastic. Some girls can see that but i feel like sometimes some of them think i'm just being a dick. This particular girl is laughing most of the time whenever I talk to her and seems to have a good time so it's hard to tell.

I'd say if she calls you cocky, says she doesn't like cocky guys, and is smiling the whole time (perhaps with a good deal of eye contact), be cocky to the absurd degree with tongue planted firmly in cheek.

Play it up! :big grin: Personally, I think people mis-use words all the time. Cocky to her may mean arrogant or a jerk. If you are funny, confident, and a flirt ... who won't like that?

I will admit though, I do need to work on coming off as less of a dick sometimes :o

Yes, cocky-fronting is as annoying as cocky-strong is irresistibly attractive.

Maybe she's laughing because you're coming off as rude and she's uncomfortable and doesn't know what else to do but play it off? Of course, if it happens on multiple occasions, obviously they're not avoiding you.

Just say, "Hey baby, looking good. Smile for me."

It's a joke but you didn't kiss ass by saying "Well I'm not cocky, not me"

Yeah, don't get defensive. I'd probably respond with something twice as cocky as the first thing I said.

:werd: I was talking to a girl I'm fairly close friends with and she said that, and my response was "So you're a lesbian, then? :eek5: "

Good thing she knew I was joking; or I would've gotten my ass beat :mamoru: :o

I usually tell them "no shit". I have a girlfriend. But if ever anyone says "cocky enough", I always tell them "no".

There is a difference between being a bit of an asshole and being a bit of an asshat.
