How do you overcome mental blocks while running

  7. Run to a pre-determined set distance. Or "I can run to the next intersection" and then you get to that intersection and say you can keep on running until the next electricity pole or some shit. Basically it's all mental and you can either quit and be a bitch or you can keep pushing and feel good when you're done.

    Definitely music.

    In high school we'd always have some hip hop music playing when our coaches would run/condition the piss out of us in wrestling practice. So I play those songs when I want to push myself nowadays. I can still hear my coaches voices yelling and cussing at me when I play those songs. Its crazy how it happens, but it works all the time.

    I usually give myself a goal. If I start to feel like I want to walk I tell myself "if you don't give it one more lap, you wont get any pussy for the rest of the year." That usually motivates me to keep going.

    You harden the fuck up and push through it. Running is 95% mental. It's about finding your pain barrier and pushing through it. A good distance runner is just as fucked up in the head as dedicated BB'er/PL'er/SM/etc.

    Something that helps me is keeping track of time by the number of songs that have played and when I'm feeling like I've reached my limit I think "K, I'll slow down after this next song" then you look down at the time and you've been running for half an hour.

    i get really paranoid so when i'm really breathing hard.. i breathe in an extra long breath b/c i feel like i'm drowning out of breath if i dont breathe.

    I tell myself not to be a weakling, and run through the mental wall.

    You only lose when you stop, after you truly get going for 20+ minutes your body adjusts and it gets easier. When you aren't used to running your body is shocked when all of a sudden you pick up and run.

    Find a nice song that you like that really gets you going... Perhaps some Darude- Sandstorm UNCE UNCE UNCE UNCE.... but seriously. I suck at running but I find myself running more and more when I have a nice song going, and I tell myself, "Peter, you're in front of everybody at the olympics, If you slow down now, Kenya will beat you in the race and you will disgrace the US of A." That gets me motivated. Then if i run the distance I wanted to run, I throw my hands up in the air Rocky style and go "yeahh!!" and then people kinda look at me funny. But i don't care! I did it and they didn't! :big grin:
