how do you make Update option in the program? (in java)

    for example i have a program which is version 1.0

    and i created a new program

    a person can click Update and it will upgrade his program

    how do you make that in java?

    i know it has to connect to the server first but then what

    Have a button which checks a server on a specific path for the jar file or whatever you have to distribute your application by. In the filename of your executable, have the version number (digiRocks_1.1.3.jar, etc). So when they run the update function, it checks their version number with the one on the server. If the one on the server is newer, replace your old executable with the new one. I guess you'd need to run this in a seperate application though, because you won't be able to overwrite the executable if you're using it to do this.
