So I'm 22 and I work in Atlanta, youngest in the office, and all of the people that I use to talk to are at least an hour away or have kids. It's just me and my SO and, although I love him dearly, I want more casual 'let's have dinner a drink and vent about stupid shit' kind of friends. Where in the hell do you meet these people and how do you go about "getting friends"? It's such an elementary question but I haven't had to "make friends" since high school.

yea its tough when you are in a new place, join a gym, become active in your community, eventually the friends will come

its not a fast process if you want good friends

Local groups for hobbies will probably be your best bet. When you and your SO go out [i.e. a museum, etc] start looking around and try finding a couple that looks to be about your age. Strike up small talk.

Bookstores and libraries, social gettogethers (parties)...you're still really young in a big city so maybe hit the clubs and volunteer at creative events (fashion shows, etc).

Thanks for all the input..I thought about joining a pickup soccer league this summer/spring. Hopefully that will strike up some new friendships.

What profession are you in? There are a lot of professional associations (for me, as a lawyer, there are litigator bar associations, employment law associations, asian american bar associations, etc.), you can look into those.

If you're religious, check out a local church, they're generally welcoming and trustworthy people.

    Volunteer organizations are also great.

My fiancee has met a few good girlfriends at clubs, so if you're still young you can always do that.

Atlanta has good music, clubs and bars I know that, as I'm only an hour away. Try buckhead on a weekend night.

What part of GA were you originally from? I'm about an hour N / NW of there.

Gwinnett/Walton county but I work and usually am around Decatur/Atlanta. Buckhead is SO overpriced but I use to really love the music scene down there..I might have to get back into that.

    Agreed.

But I think I've gotten to a point where I don't care anymore either. Got "friends" at work, but that's the only place we talk, is work. Outside work I dont have time to do the whole "make friends" thing anymore.
