Ive read that too much oil in the bore can cause heaps of pressure inside the barrel and other problems.

So wipe the oil out of the bore before you use it.

For carry weapons I make sure they're clean and in perfect working order. Since I don't hunt as often as I carry, I only clean them every so often.

what i mean to say is. if it is home defence you wont have time to clean the oil out before you need to use it.

I still don't understand. You clean the oil out before you ever even put the damn thing away.
Then its ready when you need it. :ugh2:

I maintain them all the same.
clean them, drag a swab through the barrel to get out any excess oil/crap, quick wipe down with a silicone rag and then into the safe, holster or on the nightstand.

you leave a thin coat of oil on the bore when you clean in not leave globs of oil on the inside.
