how do you know when the paint has to go?

    I think the 9 year old black paint on my car is on its last leg.

    Have a picture? It's hard to give an accurate estimate without seeing it first hand but a picture would help.

    What makes you think your paint is on its last legs? I've brought back paint like this:

    Of course, I must add that damn Jeep starts fading again in about 5-6 weeks because it is a crappy Maaco paint job. If your car is simply fading and it begins to fade quickly after buffing it out, then yes, your vehicle will need to be repainted unless you like buffing and waxing it every 4 weeks.
