motivation comes from you and you only. everyone has his/her reasons for doing it, i guess what im trying to say is that if you really don't think that you need to workout, there's no point in doing it becuase you are gonna start and quit anyway

I just naturally have a motivation to succeed and get better. I'll never be perfect so I'll always have something to improve.

I'm also very competitive, so when I goto the gym and see a guy twice my size it pushes me to get there.

You have to find motivation for yourself. If your just doing it for others, you won't last.

It could be I want to be stronger than everyone I know, or bigger, or faster or whatever.

I want to lose the weight I have gained since I was 18. I am now 23.

I have a gym membership but I never go. I feel lost when I am there. I dont know what to do next I usually am on the treadmill for like 30 to 45 minutes, and then just go home, cause I don't know how to use the equiptment. :o

yea man, it all depends on you, if i was 50 pounds heavier than i could be, that would definitely be my motivation to do so, but you have to think of why you want to do and justify to yourself that doing this will only improve you.

I used to be so fat when i was younger, kids made fun of me and even my own fmaily did, i told myself i would never go thorugh that ever again, that's my motivation and i've only gotten positive effects from it

Insecurity is a great motivator. Whenever I'm tempted to eat some shitty food, or skip the gym one day, i look at my man-tits and go "fuck, not gonna get rid these by wussing out!"

Before you jump on the bandwagon, you might want to sit down and write a list of goals for yourself, and then decide on a routine that suits you.
Christophers routine might be good, but its not for everyone.
    i.e.
If I were a football player, I would use his routine. However, my goals are more appearance oriented, so I opt for a classic bodybuilders split.

Sometimes I forget not everyone has the same goals in mind, and what works for me might not be practical for someone else.

From Kent eh? If you had posted something to this effect before July I would have been glad to take you over to my gym in Auburn and show you basic form. Now you will have to wait until the end of September to get any help from me (due to a business trip I am on right now) and by then you'll either have figured it out or have lost motivation to continue going...

start going with a friend to lifts regularly so you learn basic lifts.

good reference websites with pics/videos to illustrate lifts:
    http://exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html
    http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.htm

start by making up a simple routine and sticking to it, then add/modify to it until you get something that works for you. for example, here is mine; i follow this with 30min cardio at >160bpm. if i'm really tired on one day, i'll shift everything down a day and work out on saturday. some days, i also dont do everything listed.

    Monday – Chest & Abs/Obliques
    · BB Flat Bench Press
    · BB Decline Bench Press
    · DB Incline Bench Press
    · DB Flys
    · Standing Cable Flys
    · Incline Twisting Sit-up

    Tuesday – Biceps & Triceps
    · BB Preacher Curl
    · DB Curl
    · Slow DB Curl (aka Concentration Curl)
    · Cable Pulldown
    · Cable Bent-over Triceps Extension
    · DB Tate Press
    · Assisted Triceps Dip

    Wednesday – Shoulders & Forearms
    · DB Lateral Raise
    · DB Front Raise
    · DB Shoulder Press
    · Wrist Curl
    · Reverse Wrist Curl

    Thursday – Chest & Abs/Obliques
    · BB Flat Bench Press
    · BB Decline Bench Press
    · DB Incline Bench Press
    · DB Flys
    · Standing Cable Flys
    · Incline Twisting Sit-up

    Friday - Back
    · BB Good Mornings
    · Cable Lat Pulldown
    · Cable Seated Row
    · DB Bent-over Row
